each of the four learning styles that is a different category from the others.

(In other words, you may not choose the same learning style for each.)

LEVEL ONE

Mastery: Choose 25 unfamiliar vocabulary words from the chapters. Write the word,

a definition, and a sentence using the word correctly.

Understanding: Explain three possible solutions Hammond could have come up with

early in the story to make his life less difficult.

Self-Expressive: Help complete a storyboard for this story. Sign up for three chapters,

draw the most memorable scene, and list a quote from the book for that scene. All

drawings will be displayed together.

Interpersonal: What advice would you give to Hammond about the consequences of

the choices he is making for himself, for his family, for those on the island, and for our

world? Explain the ethical problems he must face.

LEVEL TWO

Mastery: Draw a map of Isla Nublar with all detail possible. Add to it as you read

more about the island.

Understanding: Find a newspaper or magazine story about some current development in biotechnology or an ethical dilemma caused by this new technology. Summarize the

article, explain the moral issues involved, and give your own personal view.

Self-Expressive: Working with a partner, two people, or alone, choose a portion of the story that you can act out in 10 minutes. Rehearse carefully and perform for the class as a Reader's Theatre or a Choral Reading.

Interpersonal: Interview ten students in the class, questioning them about how they decide what is right and wrong. Find out how they make ethical decisions and write up the results.

LEVEL THREE

Mastery: Follow three Biotech Stocks for the next three weeks, charting the profits and

losses. Find out how much these companies are worth. From what you learn, write how

this information relates directly to the novel.

Understanding: Choose one of the Iterations as a topic and write about how it applies

to the entire section it prefaces (2-3 pages).

Self-Expressive: Become one of the characters and write an extended interior monologue for him or her. Write about the feelings and emotions he or she experiences in the three most vital events for this character.

Interpersonal: Working with a partner or a group, debate the pros and cons of developing a project like Jurassic Park. Present your debate, 10 minute minimum, to the class.
