Jurassic Park Menu
Introduction
This lesson gives the students a variety of choices of projects designed
to address three different ability levels, four different learning styles,
and many different topics. The students will be able to choose which projects
they want to accomplish during the course of reading the novel Jurassic
Park. This menu can be given to students fairly early in their reading
of the novel so they can work on the projects as they read.
Student Objectives
Students will:
- choose what projects they are interested in doing;
- experience a variety of different learning modalities and levels of
learning;
- have the opportunity to work in small groups, as well as individually;
- have the opportunity to express themselves creatively;
- reinforce the meaning of the novel by working through the various projects.
Procedure
- Give students the hand-out with the menu and go over the basic directions.
Be sure they understand that they are to choose one activity from each
level and that they must choose three different learning styles.
- Give the students a day or two to make their choices.
- Assign a due date for the projects. Keep in mind that some of the activities
are performance-based so time needs to be built-in to allow students to
perform their debates, monologues, or readers' theatre presentations.
