How does light affect the color of a crystal? What are some important uses for crystals? Why did LLNL need to grow giant KDP crystals? Where are the giant crystals going to be used? How are rapid growth giant crystals being used to teach chemistry at Monte Vista High School?   This lecture supports the California Content Standards Chemistry, Grades 9-12, item 6: Solutions are homogenous mixtures of two or more substances. Definition of solute and solvent. How to describe the dissolving process as a result of random molecular motion. Temperature, pressure, and surface area affect the dissolving process. How to calculate the concentration of a solute in terms of grams per liter, molarity, parts per million and percent composition.
