STAR

Science Teacher and Researcher (STAR)
LLNL is one of several federally funded research centers collaborating with CSU Cal Poly Center for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Education (CESaME) to provide pre-service and early-career science teachers with an eight-week-long, paid mentored research internship. This research experience encourages science majors to pursue careers in science teaching by helping them develop professional identity as both a scientists and science educator. Applications will be available on December 1, 2009. The internships begin on June 14 and end on August 7, 2010. Additional details and registration information are available on the STAR Website.

LPC Science Series

Lecture Series at Las Positas College
The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Las Positas College Science and Engineering Seminar series provides LLNL scientists and engineers a forum to share basic and applied research with LPC students and faculty. The presentations will focus on how science is applied to solve problems from theory to practice.

Four, 45 minute multidisciplinary seminars will be held each year: two in the Fall and two in the Spring. Following each presentation, there will be a 30 minute informal discussion where students and faculty can ask questions about topics of interest such as research directions and career projections.

Admission is free and seating is first come-first serve.

EYH

Science on Screen
Science on Screen is a free science education program for middle, high school, and college students paired with a popular feature film. Seating is first come, first served.

EYH

San Joaquin Expanding Your Horizons (SJEYH)
The San Joaquin Expanding Your Horizons (SJEYH) is an annual conference specially designed for 6th through 12th grade girls to encourage them to consider education and career options in science and mathematics. About 550 girls from the San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties attend. Girls from other school districts may also register. The EYH Student Packet provides lots of information about EYH, attending an EYH workshop, and careers in science and math.
